This Friday, January 9th, 2009 around 11 o'clock, I will be meeting up with Rudy Krajcovic of DooleyMack Constructors, Project Manager for the new Shoal River Middle School in Crestview, Florida. The school is projected to be ready for the start of the new school year in Fall 2009. I am personally excited about the visit because Rudy has actually been inviting me out to the job site but I never was able to find time. It took an article authored by Tom Crouser titled "Case of Making Time, Part 3 of 3" in Quick Printing's November 2008 issue to motivate me to schedule a set time to meet up with Rudy. During a visit with a print shop, Tom became aware of a situation where this young print specialist struggled to find time to sit down and make sales calls. It was while talking to this gentleman that he recalled the magic words spoken by Dave Fellman at one of his presentations: "Make time to sell".
Dave's theory is that if you try to find the time to do something, you never will get it done. You have to make time to do it.The meeting this Friday has less to do with sales though and more to do with giving the company I work for a personality outside of just working within an office selling copies of architectural blueprints to contractors for jobs up for bid. As far as I know, I am known as "so-&-so's" local printer rather than a person that cares not just about keeping his job in this economic slide but also a person that loves what he does and has a passion for seeing the projects figurative leap from paper to ground to sky. Over the past year and a half, all of the Blueprints Now store locations have been actively printing the plans for a wide variety of General and Sub-Contractors and this Friday, with the Shoal River Middle School project so close to completion, I will finally be putting my foot forward in forever linking my company to our favorite people outside of the solid 8' x 6' glass window that gives me a false sense of security.
